Futuristic: an inherent quality of disabled communities, which, faced with unfulfilled promises, turn to their own imaginaries. This is particularly evident within crip scenes, which develop a method in its own right—“a method for imagining multiple futures, positioning the ‘crip’ as a space that is desired and desirable for certain people, in relation to their own bodies or mental and psychological processes.” While forms of disability art evolve according to prevailing models of disability, they also manage to emancipate themselves from these frameworks to create desirable possibilities—those that public authorities struggle to bring into being.
