An archipelago is a group of islands that are geographically related. It is also a concept developed by the poet, philosopher and essayist Édouard Glissant (1928-2011), who thought of the archipelago as a metaphor for a way of organising the world that facilitates cooperation between different organisms; a coexistence that is not based on power relations but that draws strength from its diversity. The archipelago brings together two contradictory notions: the isolation of each island and the connection of the whole that they form. The group exhibition Ubuntu, a lucid dream, is not organised by theme but rather refers to the notion of the archipelago to allow for the circulation of forms and ideas between different artistic proposals.
