Cécile Bouffard

Artiste

Cécile Bouffard, born in 1987, lives and works in Paris.

In her sculptural practice, she brings to life a repertoire of objects borrowed from the vernacular, the body and sensual gestures. Alternating between the familiar and the strange, softness and incision, suggestion and claim, her creations resist definition and cultivate an ambiguity that prevents them from being assigned categories, identities or uses: for Cécile Bouffard, “just as words can make the tongue wag, gestures and forms have double meanings, and the latter play on pretense right down to their facture”.

The artist has enjoyed solo exhibitions at the Centre d’art contemporain Les Capucins in Embrun in 2019 Pourquoi marcher quand on peut danser, at galerie guadalajara90210 in Mexico babosa babosa, at Rond-Point Projects in Marseille High by the phlegme and at La Salle de bains in Lyon in 2022 Basket case. She has taken part in group shows including La fugitive at Crédac in 2022, Molinier rose saumon at Frac aquitaine in 2023, Your friends and neighbours at High Art and Crazy Toads at CAC Brétigny in 2023.

Since 2021 she has been collaborating with dancer and choreographer Ruth Childs on the Delicate people project, and since 2018 has been leading several lesbian collective projects such as VNOUJE with Clara Pacotte and Roxanne Maillet and La Gousse with Barberin Quintin and Roxanne Maillet. She has co-founded run-space artist Pauline Perplexe since 2014.
