Andrea Benvenuto is philosopher at Centre d’études des mouvements sociaux, co-leads the research collective “Les Deaf Studies en question” and directs the “Handicap & Sociétés” programme at EHESS. Her research examines the links between forms of protest and the uses of the notion of repair within artistic practices and institutional frameworks that place Deaf people and sign language at the heart of their practice. Through a critical approach to archives – considered as spaces for research, creation and repair that give substance to lives rendered invisible by hegemonic narratives – her work seeks to bring forward marginalised memories, experiences and forms of transmission.
