Disability arts bring together artists who share the view that deviations from health norms should not be seen as sources of suffering, but as starting points for creative work, both methodologically and thematically. “Without denying the negative aspects of these deviations, activists, scholars, and artists seek to produce and disseminate new narrative structures that are not reducible to medical discourse,” and they sometimes politicize their experiences of disability. Artistic movements are thus closely linked to the different models of disability that emerge over time.
