CHRISTIAN MARCLAY & PHIL MINTON Manga Scroll

To coincide with Christian Marclay’s project involving the windows of the Palais de Tokyo, the artist has invited the famous British vocalist Phil Minton to interpret his work Manga Scroll (2010). In the form of a 20-meter paper scroll, the piece presents an assembly of onomatopeias taken from Japanese mangas. The work is then activated by being read by Phil Minton who converts the graphic sounds into a vocal performance, again returning the noises set down in writing to the acoustic sphere.
