Paul Kodjo

Born in 1939, Paul Kodjo was a major figure of post-independence Ivorian visual culture. He passed away in Abidjan in 2021. Active from the 1960s onwards, starting in 1967 he trained as a photographer in Paris, where he worked as a photojournalist. Upon his return to Côte d’Ivoire in 1970, he founded the avant-garde photo agency MAMEDIS. His oeuvre serves as a key document of the social and cultural effervescence of the time.
