Mattea Riu

Artist

Mattea Riu was born in Bastia in 1997. She began filming her loved ones and the places around her at a very young age, driven by a desire to preserve traces of them. After graduating from the Cergy School of Fine Arts in 2020, she has continued to develop her practice across cinema, sound art, and writing. Her work explores themes such as recollection, the memory of places, language and island identity, and the relationship between the margins and the norm.

Her work has been exhibited at the Été Photographique de Lectoure and Frac Corsica, and screened at film festivals including Arte Mare and Cine Donne.

She engages with spaces that often go unnoticed, bringing a free, documentary-style perspective that is nonetheless infused with the intimate and the fictional.
