Laura Lamiel

Artist

Laura Lamiel was born in 1943 in Morlaix. She lives and works in Le Pré Saint-Gervais. She is represented by the gallery Marcelle Alix, Paris. Her work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and international institutions over the past two decades, including the Musée de Grenoble (2000), the Museu de Arte Moderna de Rio de Janeiro (2006); La Galerie de Noisy-LeSec (2013); La Verrière in Brussels (2015), the CRAC Occitanie in Sète (2019) and, more recently, the Cahn Kunstraum in Basel (2021), as well as the Coimbra Biennial (2022).

For over forty years, Laura Lamiel has been developing an oeuvre of singular formal coherence that explores different perceptive, mental and affective states. By assembling and placing in tension with one another found objects and raw materials, colours and lights, her works simultaneously open up and conceal spaces both physical and psychic. Seeking out and spanning vertiginous gaps between formal vocabularies, she explores with sensitivity and sensuality the interval between the intimate and the social, the existential and the everyday.
