Hugo Vitrani is a curator at the Palais de Tokyo, where he has organized a number of group exhibitions (“La morsure des termites”, 2023; “Prince·sses des Villes-Dacca, Lagos, Manille, Mexico, Téhéran”, 2019; “Jusqu’ici Tout Va Bien”, 2020; “Foudre Sentimentale”, 2022), and solo exhibitions (“Mohamed Bourouissa, Signal”, 2024 ; “Rakajoo, Ceinture Nwar”, 2023; “Maxwell Alexandre, New Power”, 2021; “Jay Ramier, Keep the fire burning (Gadé difé limé) “, 2021; “Florian et Michael Quistrebert, The Light of the Light”, 2016), as well as founding the “Lasco Project” in 2012, an experimental programme focusing on urban art that has unfolded in the labyrinthine underground spaces of the institution. A co-curator of the 15th Biennale de Lyon, “Là où les eaux se mêlent” (2019), and the exhibition “Anticorps” (2020), for which he invited artists including Fernando Palma Rodriguez, Rebecca Ackroyd, Stephen Powers, Ozgür Kar, Tala Madani, Kate Cooper, and Simphiwe Ndzube.
As an independent curator, his projects include “Echosystems”, a tribute to Virgil Abloh, at galerie Kreo (2023); the group shows « L’esprit souterrain » at domaine Vranken-Pommery (Reims, 2018) ; “Scar/face” at galerie Ceysson & Bénétière (Paris, 2019). He also participated to the “100 artistes dans la ville” project led by MOCO, with Mécènes du sud Montpellier-Sète, inviting Nils Alix-Tabeling and Zsófia Keresztes (2019). In 2016, Hugo Vitrani took part in the scientific committee for the “Etat de l’art urbain, Oxymore III” symposium organized by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication and the University of Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense. He was also part of the CNAP’s public commission advisory committee (2015-2018), and taught at the Kourtrajmé school (2019-2021) founded by director Ladj Ly. After collaborating with the newspaper Mediapart (2011-2016), Hugo Vitrani can sometimes be found in certain press titles (Beaux Arts Magazine, Vogue…). He is the co-author of a number of artists’ books, including Chiaro / Scuro (ed. Classic Paris, 2015), Underground doesn’t exist anymore (ed. Manuella, 2016), Femme Vie Liberté – une révolution iranienne (October 2023, Beaux-arts de Paris éditions, with the Palais de Tokyo and the Musée d’Art Moderne).
