Elizabeth A. Povinelli

Critical theorist and artist

Elizabeth A. Povinelli is a critical theorist and artist. She is Professor of Anthropology and Gender Studies at Columbia University (NY) and one of the founding members of the Karrabing Film Collective. She is the author of eight books, the most recent, Routes & Worlds (Sternberg, 2022), Between Gaia and Ground (Duke, 2021), The Inheritance (Duke, 2021). Her work has received prizes including the 2017 Lionell Trilling award for Geontologies (Duke, 2018). With her Karrabing colleagues, Elizabeth A. Povinelli has made over ten films which have received numerous awards including in 2021 the Eye Prize from the Eye Filmmuseum (Amsterdam), in 2015 the Cittadellarte-Foundazione Pistoletto and Foundation Zegna Visible Award, and the Cinema Nova Award Best Short Fiction Film at Melbourne International Film Festival.
