Ali Cherri, born in Beirut in 1976, is a French-Lebanese artist and filmmaker. Through sculpture, film, drawing and installation, he explores temporal disjunctions between ancient worlds and contemporary societies, bringing together archaeological artefacts and narratives drawn from history. His work examines the ideologies on which nations are built and the circulation of cultural objects, from their excavation to their entry into museum collections. It reveals tensions between authority and vulnerability, heroism and exhaustion, preservation and destruction.

Recent solo exhibitions by Ali Cherri include “To Fall, Patiently” (Oakville Galleries, 2026), “How I Am Monument” (Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, 2025; Secession, Vienna, 2024), “Twenty-Four Ghosts per Second” (Bourse de Commerce, Paris, 2025), “Les Veilleurs” ([mac] Marseille, 2025), and “ENVISAGEMENT” (Institut Giacometti, Paris, 2024). Alongside “Today is OK” at the Palais de Tokyo, his exhibition “Soul Witness” will open at WIELS in Brussels on 5 September 2026.
