Music

Beyond a technical definition (an arrangement of sound phenomena according to the principles of pitch, rhythm and harmony), music is a human, cultural, social and, potentially, political phenomenon. It is this sociological approach that predominates in the exhibitions: music evoked by its famous figures (rap and R’n’B stars) in Maxwell Alexandre’s paintings; music present during Sarah Maldoror’s fruitful collaborations with the great names of free jazz, the Art Ensemble of Chicago and Archie Shepp in particular; music considered as a privileged vector in terms of spirituality, but also of social, philosophical and political discourse by Jay Ramier; music taking a central place in Kudzanai Chiurai’s installation/library, tracing a history of popular music and its political significance on the African continent.
