Benoît Pype

Fabrique du résiduel
from 04/19/2012 to 06/03/2012

His “special offices” are the laboratories where he analyzes his samples, from the Socle pour une goutte d’eau to the Sculptures de fond de poche. There he presents “the artist’s natural environment”, the place where he carries out his research, the setting of his investigations, the evidence he accumulates. This studio is a watchtower that “rests on a revaluation of time, of the proper use of slowness, with a view to increasing our ability to come to terms with events”.

Benoît Pype is interested in insignificant objects, in the ephemeral, designating the zones of oblivion in a way that is not devoid of humor. Working against programmed obsolescence and disappearance, the artist has embarked on an obsessional enterprise to collect and preserve the negligible which he misappropriates and submits to our gaze, sculpting the invisible, and inviting us to look at the world through a magnifying glass.
