In her videos, Renata Poljak (born in 1974, lives and works in Zagreb) subtly mixes subtly autobiographical stories and documentary to explore social problems generated by the conflict in the Balkans, such as the status of women, immigration, the change of values – between Communism and boosted Capitalism, like in Great Expectations (2005), which ironically witnesses nationalist and patriarchal values still very present in some parts of today’s Croatia.
