The Palais de Tokyo is pleased to present two rare and cult feature films by Ashley Hans Scheirl.
Flaming Ears (1991, 84 mins, Super 8 enlarged to 16mm, restored and digitised in 4K) is a lesbian science-fiction film set in the imaginary town of Asche in the year 2070. A story of love and revenge, sex and violence, it is an anti-romantic plea for love in all its forms.
Somewhere between gore and cyberpunk, Dandy Dust (1998, 94 mins, digitised 16mmm) features Dust, a transgender cyborg who travels through time and space in search of their memories. In both cases, the artist and their acolytes perform in front of the camera, referring to radical body art figures such as the Viennese Actionists and VALIE EXPORT. The body becomes an instrument of subversion and critique in the face of the violence of an authoritarian society. It reinvents itself, underlining the political dimension of sexuality.
These films are in German (Flaming Ears) and English (Dandy Dust) respectively, with French subtitles.
They contain a few explicit or violent scenes likely to offend some sensibilities and are not recommended for young audiences.
The entrance ticket to the Palais de Tokyo exhibitions provides access to this event. The screening will take place in room 37.
The screening will be interrupted on Wednesday 25 October at 6.30pm due to a discussion between artist Ashley Hans Scheirl and researcher Claudia Reiche about these films. For more information, visit this page.
