In resonance with the “Normes Corps” exhibition season, the Palais de Tokyo invites André André to take over the Chamber of echoes, a free program space located in the entrance hall of the art center.
André André is an artist whose practice spans theater, drawing, sculpture, writing, and music. For this occasion, they present a work that is part costume, part sculpture, along with a selection of caustic, tender, and cruel paintings and drawings that oscillate between a refusal of the injunction to succeed in life and a burning desire for love and recognition. They will also launch a new publication with Ripopée entitled Je change encore un tout petit peu et après je m’accepte (I’ll Change Just a Little Bit More, Then I’ll Accept Myself), from which most of the works presented are drawn.
“These drawings represent an inner dialogue that I am constantly having with myself and with the world. I try to understand what is happening around me by pointing out these enormous paradoxes and this absurdity, which is also a source of humor.
I trained in Switzerland, where the values of duty and hard work are very strong. It is by forcing oneself to work that one achieves something—an idea that life, and experiences of free and joyful labor, have gradually dismantled over time.
In this body of work, I therefore cultivate a form of freedom in which I do not force things, but instead allow them to emerge and welcome whatever appears.” — André André
The Chamber of Echoes is a space on the cusp of programming and cultural mediation. It presents exhibitions and events of varying scale and duration within the free admission area of the Palais de Tokyo. It is designed as a flexible and responsive space, inspired by the principles of cultural rights, which seek to recognize the right of every individual and every group to participate in cultural life and to express their culture.
Free admission from the lobby of the Palais de Tokyo.
