From May 28 to 31, at the heart of the Palais de Tokyo and its Room 37 dedicated to listening, singer – Camille – invites museum visitors to immerse themselves in her new project with The Sound of Milk – Experience.
The Sound of Milk is a musical fresco that has been evolving for over fifteen years (the age of her eldest son). Conceived as a three-part trilogy (Naissance, Enfance, and Adolescence), – Camille – explores the connections between motherhood, transmission, and creation. Moving from an intimate sound diary captured within the family sphere to luminous, orchestrated pop, the album (set for release in autumn 2026) celebrates joy as a vital force in troubled times and reflects on what we pass on to future generations.
Here, through a sound installation presented in Room 37, visitors will be able to discover Naissance, the first installment of The Sound of Milk trilogy, in preview. The installation will also unveil the visual identity of the project through a photograph by Sophie Calle, offering a female perspective on its theme, commissioned by Camille from her photographer friend.
Composed of water, air, breath, lullabies, nursery rhymes, and melodies, this first chapter captures the poetry of Camille’s everyday life as a mother (without idealizing it) embracing its joyful, playful dynamics and rituals. In it, – Camille – cares for her children and encourages them to sing the world.
This first opus was recorded between 2010 and 2015 in her family home in Gascony. As babies and young children babble and chirp together over the course of a summer, sounds and songs emerge from her like a rising tide of milk. Camille records these moments of daily life with her two very young children—this is where “The Sound of Milk” was born.
For her, everything vibrates and produces melody—from the cells in our bodies to the planets in the universe. The result is a sound diary made entirely of voice and living presence, without musical instruments or artifice, where a feminine, maternal song flows freely.
Each piece becomes a gentle touch, offering a form of care for the ears and hearts of listeners.
