Truong Cong Tung was born in 1986 in Dak Lak, he lives and works in Ho Chi Minh City. He grew up among various ethnic minority communities in the highlands of central Vietnam, particularly the indigenous Jarai people. Their ancestral beliefs, rooted in nature, have had a lasting influence on his multidisciplinary work: video, sculpture, installation, painting, etc. Science, cosmology, philosophy and the environment are all part of his inspiration, while his research focuses especially on the cultural and geopolitical changes brought about by modernisation. Truong Cong Tung’s practice is also collective: together with artist Thao Nguyen Phan and art laborer Arlette Quynh-Anh, he founded the Art Labor collective, working in between visual arts, social sciences and life sciences in various contexts and public spaces.
Recent solo exhibitions include “Day Wanes… Night Waxes” (Hamburger Kunsthalle, Hamburg, 2025) “Trail Dust” (Canal Projects, New York, 2024); “The Disoriented Garden… A Breath of Dream” (travelling exhibition: Sàn Art, Ho Chi Minh City; Sa Sa Art Project, Phnom Penh; Jim Thompson Art Center, Bangkok and MUSEION, Bolzano (2023-2024), as winner of the Han Nefkens Foundation – Southeast Asian Video Art Production Grant 2023). His work has also been presented at several international events: Hawaii Triennial (with Art Labor collective, 2025), 11th Asia-Pacific Contemporary Art Triennial (QAGOMA, Brisbane, 2024), “Cloud Chamber” (with Art Labor collective, Para Site, Hong Kong, 2024); “Is it morning for you yet?”, 58th Carnegie International (Pittsburgh, 2022).
