Thomas Hirschhorn

Thomas Hirschhorn, born in Bern (Switzerland) in 1957, studied at Kunstgewerbeschule Zürich before moving to Paris in 1983. His work has been featured in numerous museums and international exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale (1999, 2015), Documenta 11 (2002), and the Swiss Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (2011). Recent solo exhibitions include “Fake It, Fake It, Till you Fake It” in New York (2024) and “LAST CHANCE: What can we learn from History of Art, for today’s understanding? ” in Paris (2024). With each exhibition, in a museum, gallery or alternative space, Thomas Hirschhorn asserts his commitment toward a non-exclusive audience, testified by numerous projects in public space (more than 78 works until now), as most recently “Sense of Safety” in Ukraine (2024) and “Art Shelter” in Riga (2022). His local collaborations include “Robert Walser-Sculpture” in Biel (2019) and the “Gramsci Monument” in New York (2013). His writings include Critical Laboratory: The Writings of Thomas Hirschhorn (MIT Press 2013), Une volonté de faire, Thomas Hirschhorn, Macula, 2015 et Quand les faibles se prennent pour des forts, Macula, 2024. His awards include the “Prix Marcel Duchamp” (2000), the “Joseph Beuys-Preis” (2004), and the “Prix Meret Oppenheim” (2018).

Thomas Hirschhorn was born in 1957. He lives and works in Paris.
