Théophylle Dcx

Artist

Théophylle Dcx’s practice is akin to a personal diary. Biographical, youthful, and resolutely memorial, it hyperbolically shares anger, fatigue, anxiety, joy, desires, and hopes in the face of a perpetually collapsing world. Social, political, and medical catastrophes punctuate the narrative. Some have already passed, and others may come or could be repeated. In response emerges a visceral need to celebrate life. In this vulnerability, his friends are his best defences. Their stories intertwine with those who preceded them to stand against an excluding society.

Whether through video, performance, or text, the story is written with music. The latter stands as a vivid and powerful tool of expression. Throughout the works, lyrics infect the diary. Oscillating between sharp punchlines and testimonials of struggles, they are the carriers of raw emotions where the permanence of stigmas and systems of oppression for marginalized communities is revealed.

Théophylle Dcx was born in 1996. He lives and works in Marseille.
