Simone Lagrand

Artist

Simone Lagrand (1980 – Martinique) is a Pawolèz poet and indisciplinary artist.

For the past fifteen years, she has been developing a narrative that explores notions of language, pleasure and filial solitude to create poetic biotopes that protect her from post-colonial algie.

Recently presented at Savvy Contemporary in Berlin and SESC Pompeia in Sao Paulo, the Schomburg Center for Black Culture in New York and the Pernod Ricard Foundation in Paris, her sound narratives sometimes take the form of installations, recitals, poetic presents or videos. Her work circulates between 4 cardinal points: writings for children, poetic divination, the expression of eroticism in a diglossic territory, and a reflection on joy through various spaces such as funeral ritual or the informal in Caribbean culture.

Resident at Villa Albertine Miami in 2021, Mondes nouveaux laureate in 2022 and resident at Tropiques Atrium Scène Nationale de Martinique in 2023, she is also the creator of the Pawolotek website. She sails between Seine Saint Denis and Martinique.
