Sharon Eyal

Choreographer

Sharon Eyal (born in 1971 in Jerusalem) danced with the Batsheva Dance Company from 1990 to 2008, then ventured into choreography within the Batsheva Dancers Create Project. During her time with the company, she held the roles of Artistic Director in 2003 and 2004 and Choreographer from 2005 to 2012. In 2005, she joined forces with Gai Behar (born in 1977 in Tel Aviv), who had shaped Tel Aviv’s nightlife as a party producer and curator of multidisciplinary art events from 1999 to 2005. In 2013, Eyal and Behar launched their dance company, S-E-D. Its repertoire includes six productions co-produced with some of the world’s major dance venues. In addition to their work with S-E-D, Eyal and Behar create commissioned pieces for external companies, including Nederlands Dans Theater, Royal Swedish Ballet, and Göteborgs Operans Danskompani. Their creations have earned prestigious awards, such as Germany’s DER FAUST Theater Prize (2018) and the FEDORA VAN CLEEF & ARPELS Prize for Ballet in 2017.

Since August 2022, S-E-D has been a registered French nonprofit association, based in France. Eyal and Behar frequently collaborate with leading figures in traditional dance worldwide. They have worked on fashion shows with Christian Dior Couture and Maria Grazia Chiuri, developed projects with the music label YOUNG, and participated in the album I Am Easy to Find by The National. Sharon Eyal alsocollaborates with Mike Mills and dances in music videos for songs like Hairpin Turns and Hey Rosey, as well as performing live at the opening concert of their international tour at the Olympia in Paris. In 2023, Sharon Eyal was named a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters of the French Republic.
