Patrik Pion (b. 1954 in Valigny (Allier), lives in Bagnolet) combines sculpture, photography, drawing, sound and video in a practice that draws on psychoanalysis and philosophy. He creates works that are akin to mental images, an approach typified by his “objets blancs”. These sculptures recreate everyday objects – from lemon squeezers to toothbrushes, from jigsaws to syringes – using folded, crumpled and stapled blank newspaper. They constitute the core of Patrik Pion’s studio practice, with the artist having created some three hundred objects.
He first experimented with paper sculpture in workshops held with patients at the George Sand Psychiatric Hospital in Bourges (France), where he worked as an artist during more than twenty years.
The artist is represented by Galerie Valeria Cetraro, Paris
