Nge Lay is invited to live and work in the Friche du Palais de Tokyo from March 12 to June 12, 2024. Conceived as a place of welcome, the Friche crosses invitations to give time and space to creators, in direct contact with the institution, its programming and its concerns.
Born 1979 in Pyin Oo Lwin (Myanmar), lives and works in Paris.
With a spiritual approach, Nge Lay works in painting, sculpture, photography and performance. She has a long-term interest in history, memory, the environment and gender equality in Myanmar. After the military junta’s coup d’état en 2021, she abruptly left the country with her family because of their status as artists and their commitment to pacifism. In Ile-de-France, various cultural institutions took turns welcoming them (MAC VAL, Beaux-Arts, Cité internationale des arts).
