Marion Scemama (1950) is a photographer and filmmaker. Her life and work have been marked by her close friendship with artist David Wojnarowicz, who she met in 1984 before working as his assistant and co-directing several video works with him. Scemama has since made a film – Self-Portrait in 23 Rounds: a Chapter in David Wojnarowicz’s Life 1989-1991 (2018) – and authored a book – A Slow Boat to China (2021) – about Wojnarowicz. In the 1990s, at the Galeries photo de la Fnac she organized a travelling exhibition on the HIV/AIDS epidemic, La Vie, l’Amour, la Mort (1994).
