Joffrey Speno

Filmmaker, critic and programmer

Joffrey Speno was born in 1987 in Ambilly. Filmmaker, critic and programmer, he lives and works in Paris.

2013 marks the beginning of La parole aux morts, released in 2021, the offbeat filming practice through which he conducts interviews of acquainted people in their homes, and aks them about their relationship with death. To date, La parole aux morts is a series of 30 documentary portraits, each being dedicated to a particular person.

Joffrey Speno also collaborates as a film critic with different magazines and programs such as Diacritik from 2016 to 2021 and Répliques in 2019, with a particular taste for long interviews. He currently writes for the magazine and documentary catalog of the CNC Images de la culture since 2019 and takes part in L’esprit critique, le podcast culturel de Mediapart since 2022.

He took the role of passer-by further to film programming when he joined the selection committee of the festival Les Écrans documentaires d’Arcueil in 2020 and became artistic director of En temps réel, festival de nouvelles formes documentaires in 2022. In 2023, he created the cycle “Faire genre·s à l’écran” for the Festival du Film Francophone de Grèce.
