Jeanne Jacob

Artist

Jeanne Jacob, 1994, (Neuchâtel, CH) lives and works in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland.

Jeanne Jacob’s artistic practice alternates and merges different media, between painting, performance, text and drawing. She regularly works in collaboration with other artists. Trained at the Lucerne School of Art and Design HSLU, she graduated in 2019 with the Zeugin-design prize. The following year, during the catonale, her Looking for Love series of paintings was exhibited at the Pasqu’art art center, winning the Kunstverein prize.

In 2021, Jeanne Jacob publishes two books. La Danse du lombric is an intimate graphic novel, drawn in charcoal and ink and published by Label Rapace, presented at Espace Libre in Biel on its release, and accompanied by a solo exhibition of drawings and lithographs. The second work, Mickey Fluide, co-edited by Ciaopress and Turbopress, is an artist’s book presenting a series of oil-painted Mickey Mouse.

In 2022, for the Swiss performance Awards, Jeanne Jacob and Cornelia Nater, under the name “Le collectif les heureuses”, present their performance in which they converse over a cup of tea, accompanied by electronic sounds, paintings and photographs.

Jeanne Jacob regularly exhibits her work in various offspaces and institutions, as well as at sex-positive events such as Ufficio della Notte (zürich), Lustreifen (Basel), Schamlos! (Bern), Pinkpanorama (Lucerne) and The queer Archive (Athen).

In 2023, at the Swiss Art Awards, she received the Kiefer-Hablizel Special Prize.

With a frank approach, Jeanne Jacob flirts and speaks with tenderness and irony about a constant stumbling, in a desire for radical gentleness towards herself, others and her environment. Her work stems from feminist queer reading and contemporary sociology, interwoven with the urgency of communities and great friendships, leveraged by stories and other narratives.
