Iyo Bisseck is a multidisciplinary artist, interaction designer and programmer. Born in 1994, she lives in Paris and works between Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands.
Her artistic practice combines immersive digital environments, sculptural installations, moving images and video games. Her work is informed by a critical reflection on digital tools, and in particular their roots in colonial and capitalist logics.
Following time spent experimenting in scientific laboratories, where she pushed back the limits of AI by creating autonomous virtual agents, Iyo Bisseck decided to dedicate herself to spaces of collective organization such as Dreaming Beyond AI and Matri-Archi(tecture). In her work as a web designer, she takes part in the creation of online spaces for cultural, non-profit and/or political projects.
In her artistic practice, Iyo Bisseck undertakes a multidisciplinary exploration of the contemporary construction, use and perception of archives. Highlighting the materiality of the digital and the continuities of colonial systems encoded within it, her artistic creations seek to support decolonial and queer struggles, as well as to create spaces of care and community. She is actively engaged in the collection, preservation and sharing of archives, and works to transcribe diasporic realities through fiction and interactive media.
She is invited to participate at the Friche of the Palais de Tokyo from October 7 to December 20, 2024.
