Hervé Guibert (1955-1991) was a photographer, writer, journalist, scriptwriter, filmmaker and photo columnist for the newspaper Le Monde and for L’Autre Journal. He died of AIDS. He wrote some thirty books, including L’Image fantôme, Des aveugles, À l’ami qui ne m’a pas sauvé la vie, Le Protocole compassionnel, Cytomegalovirus, with this last book published posthumously. He was also the subject of a documentary portrait, La Pudeur ou l’impudeur (1992) and kept a journal which has since been published as Le Mausolée des amants (2001). His work has given rise to numerous exhibitions, performances and plays.
