fierce pussy was founded in 1991 in New York. Immersed in the fight against HIV/AIDS at a time of intense mobilisation in support of LGBT rights, fierce pussy took the struggle for lesbian identity and visibility to the streets. Foregrounding use of low-fi technology, the collective responded to the emergency by using whatever resources were available: old typewriters, found photographs including their own childhood photos, and materials provided by their respective day jobs. The collective was composed of a variable number of participants. After reforming in 2008, the collective continues to this day with four of its original members: Nancy Brooks Brody, Joy Episalla, Zoe Leonard and Carrie Yamaoka, who all continue to work together.
