A person stands on a grassy path in sunlight, wearing a checkered jacket, wide light-colored pants, and a headscarf, surrounded by green foliage and trees.

Fanny Van Opstal

Researcher, curator

Fanny Van Opstal (born in 1997) explores forms of hospitality and collective organization of art spaces located on the margins of institutional circuits. She conducts research in France on art venues, residencies and collectives in rural areas. Through text, photography, and sound recording, she traces their functioning, narratives and self-organization strategies.

In 2025, she founded the Balbuzarde association, which produced a map illustrated by Pia-Mélissa Laroche, bringing together sixty creative spaces encountered during her travels. Trained in exhibition management, she managed Maison Artagon, a multidisciplinary residence in the Loiret department of France , and now works as residence, production and programming manager at 19 Crac, the regional contemporary art center in Montbéliard.
