Dimitri Milbrun

Artist & saxophonist

Dimitri Milbrun is a Franco-Haitian artist and saxophonist whose artistic practice explores the connections between Haitian spiritual traditions and an experimental contemporary aesthetic. Through drawing, sound, and animation, he engages in a process of magical realism, blending Vodou mythology, identity reflections, Creoleness, and the denunciation of historical injustices.

His works evoke a mystical presence by integrating elements related to emblematic figures from the Vodou pantheon, such as Damballah, Ogou, Erzulie Freda, and Baron Samedi. This approach goes beyond simple representation to create spaces where the spiritual engages in dialogue with the political.

Inspired by punk, hip-hop, comic books, and Haitian traditions, Dimitri Milbrun embraces a proud cultural hybridity. His work celebrates Black affirmation while critiquing the colonial legacy and playing with the boundaries between visual and sonic art.

Dimitri Milbrun was born in 1993. He lives and works in Paris.
