Raised on the fringes of society, Cleon Peterson (born in 1973 in Seattle, lives in Los Angeles) transferred his studio painting practice in 2013 to the public space by producing immense compositions on the walls of Los Angeles and the entire world. Amid his contrastingly coloured frescoes, disorder and impulsions run wild in confrontational scenes. The artist in particular evokes the heritage of ancient Greek vases which he updates thanks to his past in the street, to underground cultures and to modern-day images. He is represented by the galerie du jour agnès b. (Paris).
Before this intervention, Cleon Peterson has worked with Palais de Tokyo twice, firstly by painting the mural Power in 2014, as part of the LASCO PROJECT, Palais de Tokyo’s programme dedicated to the urban arts. He then produced Endless Sleep, a 700m2 painting on the forecourt of the Eiffel Tower as part of the Nuit Blanche 2016 (artistic direction: Palais de Tokyo).
