Boris Lehman (b. 1944, Lausanne, lives and works in Brussels) is a filmmaker and photographer. Most of his production takes the form of video journals, a means of making continuous cinema. From 1965 to 1983, he worked as a film workshop leader at Le Club Antonin Artaud, a psychiatric outpatient facility in Brussels. Le Club was founded in 1962 by a group of patients, doctors and artists, including the painter and poet Jean Raine. The artistic workshops that the group organized placed the emphasis not on therapy but on relationships between participants, providing an alternative to psychiatric hospitalization for people facing socially exclusion. It was there that Boris Lehman pursued collective film projects and directed screenplays written by patients where they told their histories, explored their fantasies and worked through their traumas.
