Bolatito Aderemi Ibitola was born in 1993 in Lagos. After moving to the USA in 2000 and studying performance at the Tisch School of Arts, New York University, Bolatito Aderemi Ibitola returned back to Lagos in 2014. By focusing on new media and performance, Aderimi Ibitola’s practice plays on a balance between the virtual and the real, and presence and representation. It explores the intersection between race, culture and gender, and seeks to question the complex notions of identity and memory.
The winner of the Art X Prize in 2018, Bolatito Aderemi Ibitola was an artist in residence at Gasworks, London (2018) as well as the Festival Theaterformen, Hannover (2018). She has in particular exhibited at the Lagos Biennale (2017), the Khoj Artists’ Association, Delhi (2017) or as part of the project of the Molue Mobile Museum of Contemporary Art of Emeka Udemba, Nigeria (2015).
