By modifying the scale and material of a prehistoric statuette, Bertrand Lavier (born in 1949 in Châtillon-sur-Seine) has removed it from the Palaeolithic and inserted it into the heart of the artistic issues of our times.Bertrand Lavier was born in 1949 in Châtillon-sur-Seine (Côte-d’Or). Initially trained as a landscape gardener at the Ecole Nationale d’Horticulture, Versailles, he produced his first artworks in 1969, before rapidly imposing his presence as one of the major figures on the contemporary European art scene. Over the past few years, his solo shows have been devoted to his work at the Musée National d’Art Moderne (Paris, 2012), the Musée d’Art Moderne, Saint-Etienne (2011), the Atelier Hermès (Seoul, 2010), the Villa Sauber (Monaco, 2010), the Villa Medicis (Rome, 2009), the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (2002) the MAMCO, Geneva (2001) and the Galerie Yvon Lambert.
