Born in 1980. Mexican artist, currently living in Mexico
Antonio Vega Macotela studied in the “Multiple Media Seminary” at the National Institute of Fine Arts in Mexico, then undertook a residency at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam (2011-2012). He participated in the 29th Sao Paulo Biennial (2010), “The Ungovernables,” New Museum (New York, 2012) and in Manifesta 9 (Genk, 2012).
The artist is interested in the processes of creating an artwork, in the interactions, negotiations and collaborations that these imply, and which he places at the heart of his approach. Thus his work is located at the intersection of several chains of equivalence that connect salaried work, spirituality and artistic practice within a single economy, taking part in drawn-out temporalities.
