Through his videos and photographs, Andrés Barón examines the filmic disarticulation of a moment, creating sensory narratives in place of verbal ones through diverse and familiar codes, such as the end of a song, a running dog, a shattered glass, a sports gesture, or a reflection in a mirror. By collaborating with close acquaintances as performers, he explores how moving images, sound, and photography can, through specific semantics, transform and shape meaning and identities.
A graduate of the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs (ENSAD), his work has been presented in various venues and exhibitions, including the International Film Festival Rotterdam (NL), Fondation d’Entreprise Hermès (FR), Villa Albertine (USA), Edinburgh International Film Festival (UK), Anthology Film Archives (USA), Paris Photo Fair (FR), LA Film Forum (USA), Images Festival (CA), C-LAB Taiwan (TW), Le Bal (FR), Künstlerhaus Stuttgart (DE), and FRAC Île-de-France (FR). His artworks joined the FRAC Île-de-France collection in 2023 and the FRAC Franche-Comté collection in 2024. In spring 2025, Barón will present his first retrospective exhibition in his native city, Bogotá, Colombia, at Espacio Odeón in spring 2025.
Andrés Barón was born in Bogotá, Colombia. He lives and works in Paris.
