Seum

This term is used in French slang to describe a feeling of anger, frustration and bitterness, the word seum seems to derive from the Arabic summ which means poison. Seum has a broad spectrum. You can feel seum when you miss the last bus home, just as you can when confronted by the ghosts of colonialism (the two are not mutually exclusive). In his exhibition Signal, Mohamed Bourouissa has drawn up some collective tales taken from the heart of this bitterness.
