    Joan Jonas

Born in 1936, Joan Jonas is a pioneering American video and performance artist. Since the 1960s, her work has explored the body, myth, narrative and perception through performances in a variety of media. With a free, experimental approach, her work questions identity, memory and transformation, often in dialogue with feminine or animal figures. It was with her that Thao Nguyen Phan was introduced to video, which she has since combined with painting, sculpture and installation.
