Kinetic art took off in the early 20th century and refers to works that move — or that powerfully create the illusion of movement. Lights, colours, mechanisms, optical tricks — anything goes to deceive the eye. Among the stars of the genre are Alexander Calder, with his mobiles that stubbornly refuse to fall, and Jesús-Rafael Soto, with his luminous optical illusions.
