Through an experimental approach as well digital technologies, Iris van Herpen (b. 1984, lives and works in Amsterdam) creates totally atypical pieces within the fashion world.
Using materials as diverse as resin, metal, hair, leather or even Plexiglas to make dresses in complex configurations and strange volumes, Iris van Herpen is constantly exploring the possibilities offered by science even as she distances herself from the perception of a garment as a simple ornament.
Coming into contact with her creations, the human body seems transfigured and enters into a world where technology and nature come together in harmony. The inherent fragility of our mortal coil is forgotten in a sublimated post-humanism. Her creations with their fascinating materials, their organic volumes and structures, propel us towards unseen worlds where the borders between art, science and nature seem to evade our grasp.
