In conjunction with her exhibition “Praesentia” and to conclude the gathering “A Story Named Joy” organised by AWARE: Archives of Women Artists, Research and Exhibitions, Myriam Mihindou invites nine dancers to share a performative experience with the audience. She proposes strategies for regaining oxygen, breath and energy, and reconnecting with the forces of nature. Her Rebreathing ritual is a way of irrigating the brain and collaborating with different bodies – bodies that for her are like geographies, bearing the imprints of the social and political context that surrounds them. In a kind of letting go, the aim is to summon celebration, joy and connection. Like the bubble level that indicates perfect balance, or the air bubble that the Argyronetus spider creates for itself to live underwater, this original performance reflects on our capacity for resistance and the way in which we form a whole. Rebreathing means creating a bubble that is both a protective entity and a horizon.
