Petra Koehle et Nicolas Vermot Petit-Outhenin Kunst-Luftschutz-Massnahme (David)

Stored in the darkness of Soffit Thirty-seven, bags of sand, concrete slabs and planks of wood conjure up an excavation or a building site. The focal point of Kunst- Luftschutz-Massnahme (Air defense measure for art) is a 1942 slide showing the strange hibernation of the Accademia in Florence. Encased in towers of bricks filled with sand, statues from the Galleria become the invisible nuclei of primitive bunkers. In the axis of a perfectly composed image, Michelangelo’s buried David is still the gravely dominating feature.
