« Nuit blanche en salle obscure » [Sleepless night in a dark room]

15 years of films and videos at Le Fresnoy – Studio national

In the Salle Grémillon at the Palais de Tokyo, on Saturday October 6, 2012, from19:00 to 2:00 in the morning, the “Nuit blanche en salle obscure” program presents 15 years of a cinematographic and videographic output distinguished by aesthetic inventiveness and accomplishment in every genre: artists’ videos, experimental films, documentaries, narrative feature films, cartoons, etc.
Cinema, including the works made at Le Fresnoy, was contaminated by other disciplines, after having fascinated them throughout the 20th century; it attests to the metamorphosis of that art, which has now broken away from the techniques and supports it originally used, but still adheres to its supreme historical device: projection in a dark room.

White Spirit : a nocturnal odyssey focusing on white.

Proposed by the Paris German Art History Center – Palais de Tokyo, Salle Trente-Sept, from 19:00 to 2:00

In the context of the “Nuit Blanche 2012”, the Paris German Art History Center is offering a nocturnal odyssey focusing on the color white. All night long, in line with an innovative format, art historians, anthropologists, philosophers, writers and musicians will take it in turn to speak about white, making it resonate, expressing it in images and movements. A color, or not a color, a value, silence or abstraction? The event breaks down into seven sets of themes, devised as poetics that have become “matter”: white as a beginning (I), as purity (II), turmoil (III), emptiness (IV), radicalness (V) absence (VI), sideration (VII). Within these sections, readings, lectures, videos, films and music take over from one another without a break every six minutes: Spectators are free to go into this mosaic of white images at any point, and follow this flow of words and sounds through associations of ideas.

The event starts at 19:00 in Salle Trente-Sept [Room Thirty-Seven] of the Palais de Tokyo and will be accompanied by a performance by the artist Laura Lamiel, who will draw non-stop throughout the night. Each section opens with the reading of theoretical or poetic texts about white, interpreted and staged by the actors Vanasay Khamphommala, Martin Juvanon du Vachat and Élise Pradinas. The evening will draw to an end around 1.30 with a celebratory session of improvisation, “White Spirit Remix”.

CONCEPTION: Bettina Bauerfeind, Tobias Kämpf, Sarah Troche, Muriel van Vliet.
PERFORMANCE: Laura Lamiel: “Trois ans, trois mois, trois jours – nuit blanche”: 19:00 to 2:00
INTERLUDES: Vanasay Khamphommala, Martin Juvanon du Vachat, Élise Pradinas .
