The OBA project originated in 2009 at the initiative of Monte Laster, with a group of young rappers from La Courneuve taking part in study and creativity workshops with town-planners, architects, landscape architects, photographers and video artists. Echoing that experiment, in 2010 a group of slam poets centered on Abiodun Oyewole, a legendary figure in the history of rap, was formed in Harlem. In April this group of poets who have given performances on the stages of New York set out on a transatlantic journey, as the Afro-American artists, writers and musicians from the Harlem Renaissance movement did in the 1930s. OBA is produced by the FACE association, La Courneuve, and Quancard Contemporary Art, New York.
