Based on hitherto unexploited archives, Barbès Blues provides a sensitive account of the formation of a genuine popular culture, neither entirely “Arab” nor entirely French. At a time of almost total gentrification of the French capital, Hajer Ben Boubaker revisits the cultural and political history of a community that has never really been told, and reflects on the places of memory of immigration.
