On the occasion of the release of BlackMass Publishing’s publication Between the Hammer and the Heart, created as part of the Melvin Edwards exhibition and printed at the Palais de Tokyo’s micro-publishing workshop, we invite you to this launch event.
The evening will begin with a conversation between Yusuf Hassan, founder of BlackMass Publishing, and Amandine Nana, co-curator of the Melvin Edwards retrospective, followed by a performance by poet Noah Alifeni.
BlackMass Publishing is a publishing house founded in 2019 by artist Yusuf Hassan (b.1987, New York). Combining photographic archives, poetry, and jazz music, BlackMass Publishing aims to revisit Black American and transatlantic interdisciplinary artistic narratives from the Black Arts Movement of the 1960s-1970s to the present day.
This publication, fully designed, printed, and bound at the Palais’ micro-publishing workshop, is available in a limited edition of 260 copies. A precious object to discover now at the Palais de Tokyo bookstore! You can also explore another version of this edition, presented as part of the exhibition.
