Dream

The meaning of the word ‘dream’ shifts from the individual to the collective, when it takes on the meaning of utopia. A dream then becomes the necessary imagination of another model of society, another organisation of the living. We find the presence of dreams at the entrance to the Palais de Tokyo with the phrase that Joël Andrianomearisoa has hoisted above the door: “Here we carry all the dreams of the world.” In a more metaphorical way, Nolan Oswald Dennis addresses this notion in his work on the utopian dreams of another ecology of life. In Lungiswa Gqunta’s work, the dream is approached through its sensory nature, as well as serving as a source of inspiration for the artist.
